Gameplay
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is an arcade style rail shooter that allows for a range of movement around the immediate level as the player is funneled along their path. Players can assume the role of either the male or female character, Isa and Kachi. Each can fight on the ground or in the sky with the right equipment, and utilize a diverse mix of evasive maneuvers, melee attacks in close quarters and unique special attacks. The world of Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is packed with enemies ranging from swarms of low to mid-level enemies to over-the-top bosses. In battling all these, players must use their particular mix of offensive and defensive skills to continually build point multiplier bonuses as they cash in on the enemies that they conquer. The game supports a variety of controller/controller configurations, two-player play and an online international leaderboard.

Key Game Features

  • Players can take to the skies with a jetpack or hovering skateboard-like device to dodge enemy attacks or get a better lock on their targets. Get an extra bonus for staying grounded while avoiding injury. Various stages require understanding intricate patterns as players’ characters side-scroll, race on vehicles or zip in every direction through a devastated post apocalyptic world. Players can fire at targets in the distance or for close-range targets use sword attacks.
  • The precision pointing abilities of the Wii Remote controller make targeting enemies a snap. Players have the option of controlling their characters using the Wii Remote-Nunchuk combination, the Classic Controller, the Classic Controller Pro, Nintendo Gamecube controller or the Wii Zapper.
  • Choose from two playable characters, Isa and Kachi, each with unique combat abilities.
  • It’s all about the score multiplier. The better a player’s skills, the more multiplier points are earned, and the higher the overall score. Players will want to play the game again and again to beat their personal best on each level.
  • Created by Treasure, the developers behind Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun and Gunstar Heroes, the game pushes the boundaries of the shooter genre with horders of enemies, massive bosses and explosive graphics.
  • Endless waves of enemies got you down? A second player can join the fight to dish out twice the punishment.
  • An online international leaderboard lets players see how their scores stack up against players from other countries. Players will play again and again, and try to unlock even more points by figuring out and performing coin and medal-achieving tricks, in order to get an international-caliber score.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Arcade shooting taken to the next level!   August 31, 2010
Mauricio Zuñiga Rubio (Mexico City)
Back in 2000 a game called Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Earth was released in Japan, the game was highly aclaimed for it's deep story and fast gameplay, unfortunatly this game never saw the light in this side of the world. Now 10 years since then it's sequle arrives to this side on the Wii.The Story centers in two young freedom fighters, Iza Jo and Kachi, that fight against an alien empire that seeks to destroy humanity. The gameplay it's probably the best point of the game, a fast arcade rail shooter that puts the player against a interminable number of enemies, aswel as fearsome bosses, wich includes a two player option to add even more action. The graphics are amaizing, incredible scenarios of futuristic cityes and complex and post apocaliptic landscapes giving life to the game, all while attacked by hordes of enemies, going from high tech machine attackers to lethal bioweapon monsters. The music goes very well with the game, electric and heavy rock tunes give more feeling to the levels and situacion.Overall this game is an incredible game experience, amaizing graphics and music going with a fast, adictive and challenging gameplay, one of the best choises for Wii in terms of action and gamplay.

5 out of 5 stars Pure fun   August 29, 2010
Brian Benscoter (Tampa, FL United States)
This is some of the most fun I have had playing the Wii. I am not a "hard core" gamer (few Wii players are), but I find the non-stop action a blast. The game is challenging enough to keep me interested without frustrating me to the point of putting down the controllers.

4 out of 5 stars Great fun and action   August 5, 2010

It was of great fun to play this game and full of action during game. The graphic effecet was also very good among Wii's games. Definitely recommend this game to friends.

4 out of 5 stars Great but short   July 20, 2010

This game is almost exactly what it should be. The graphics push the Wii like few other games do. At the time of writing this, the only negative review I see on here is from someone who apparently did not know that it is a rail shooter and probably had no idea what to expect before playing it. If you take any time at all to educate yourself about the game before you buy it, then chances are very low that you will be disappointed. My main complaint is just how short the game is. I played through it on normal pretty quickly and felt very little incentive to replay any of the stages for a better score. The real trouble is that going for a higher score isn't as fun in my opinion because it means staying on the ground as much as possible and dodging so much that you barely have time to do anything else. It's more fun just to fly around the screen and not worry too much about taking a little damage here and there. So while I loved it the first time around, I think I'm ready to trade it in already.

4 out of 5 stars Old School Shooter   July 19, 2010
Matthew Erwin (Virginia)
Sin and Punishment Star Successor in reality isn't a whole lot different than the old arcade classic Cabal. In both your character hovers around the foreground of the screen shooting everything that gets in your way. Really the big difference is the fact that in S&P you move forward on rails and the graphics are circa 1987.

By no means is this meant as an insult. The game plays wonderfully. The plot is nonsense and poor acted nonsense at that, but who cares? There are lots of things to shoot and lots shooting at you.

The other major improvement over Cabal (or the first S&P for that matter) is the inclusion of IR aiming. Twitch gaming is made that much more precise with that addition.

How much fun you get out of it squarely lies on how you feel about games like Cabal, Wild Guns or the original S&P. If you are a fan, this is the ultimate next-gen version of those classics.
