Without any warning our Wii stopped loading games. We would just get the unable to read disc message. Looking around the web I found that the problem seemed to be a dirty lens for most people. I figured for $10 I had little to lose. Our Wii was bought used and had a strong smell of cigarette, and that seems to be one of the worst culprits for causing disc error issues. After using this cleaning kit the Wii is back to working like new. Best $10 I have spent on the Wii.
For the kit itself, it is not the same thing as a regular CD or DVD cleaning disc. This one uses a small pad with a slight bump on it to reach the lens. A few drops of cleaning fluid is put on the pad before inserting it into the Wii. It actually rubs the lens clean, unlike regular CD cleaners that simply run a little brush over it. And it is the official Nintendo cleaning kit, so it is backed by Nintendo. Will not void the warranty if your Wii is still covered.

This product definitely cleaned my Wii's optical drive, but it didn't quite get the job done. The Wii was able to read some information from game discs -- it could read none before -- but still couldn't get very far without disc read errors, even after I had tried cleaning it about six times. It may work well for some people, but was not effective for me.

Our Wii had stopped loading discs (they went in physically OK, but the system did not recognize them). I was freaking that I would have to pay Nintendo service fees to have the drive replaced. Then I had the idea to use a compressed air cleaner to blow out the disc slot. That helped, but we still had trouble getting discs to load. So I searched Amazon for Wii lens cleaners, and I found this one with good reviews, so I took the risk, even though I had not had good luck with CD lens cleaners before. I tried it out. It was easy to use - it worked just like the instructions said, and, now, all our discs load right away. If, all of a sudden, your Wii discs stop loading, I highly recommend this product. Also, it looks like we should get a lot of cleanings with the included supplies (note that you do not have to change the cleaning pad after each cleaning, just when it appears dirty).
