Epic July 22, 2010 Nancy L Ray (Rockford, WA, US) This game was epic i have not put the game down for 6 days it is amazing the bloodbath challenges are soo much fun this is one of the few truly epic games for the wii and the controls fit the game so well but the bosses are realy easy
most underated game of the last few years July 22, 2010 chris turk simply outstanding, fun, simple, beautiful, and easily replayable. some minor flaws such as no progression other than just getting better at the game, wierd ending (still enjoyed it though), and a fairly uninteresting story. however the unbelievably amazing boss fights, over the top fun combat, pretty badass character, beautiful art, great music, and all this adds up to a great style, tone, and overall great experience. if you liked viewtiful joe, god hand or any of clover and capcoms games you'll love mad world. highly recommended.
Truly Gruesome July 5, 2010 ashford Let me start by saying this game is hands down the most violent one you will ever play. Don't dismiss it just because it's on the Wii. It is incredibly fun and a great value at $7. The controls are unresponsive at times, but this doesn't hamper the experience too much. The story is unique enough. You play as Jack, who is trying to become the number 1 assassin in the Deatchwatch Games. You won't be doing yourself any favors by taking the easy way out and killing with your chainsaw. Be creative because there are a lot of things in your environment that you can use although the game does not allow you complete freedom to go places. Inf act you need to kill creatively to move up levels faster. i can't say that this game has too much replay value but considering the freedom in killing you have, the experience might be different for you. As far as motion controls go, I wish there was a little bit less. Motion controls and button controls are about a 50-50 split. But don't worry too much about this because most motion controls are quicktime events anyway. This is one of the few good third-party games that you can have a blast with on the Wii.
For its price-it's a no brainer June 16, 2010 A. Freda MADWORLD is a an arcade style brawler that will futfill the hunger for those that are sick of digesting Mario all day long. Wii needs more games like this. Although the game is short, it has a fun factor that exceeds its price. I paid 20 bucks for it, and looking back now and seeing they are selling it for about 6 is a joke. You got a Wii? Buy this. It costs about the same as some virtual console games now for crying out loud.
Fun, addictive, and over the top. June 3, 2010 L. Soto (New Jersey, USA) I personally have been playing video games since the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) days. Back then and through the SNES and Sega Genesis generation of consoles, I loved Beat-'Em-Up games. However, through the last couple of console generations I almost completely lost interest in this genre of games. That changed recently when I saw images and videos of MadWorld. I decided to give this game a chance, and I am so glad I did.
The first thing most will notice about MadWorld is the graphics. The game uses an amazing black and white style that will instantly remind you of graphic novels, specially Frank Miller's Sin City novels. Initially this was one of the things that put me off to the game. Don't get me wrong I have no problems with black and white movies or anything like that, but I feared that it was going to be a gimmick for the game and nothing else. I also feared it would be a strain on my eyes during a long play-through. Thankfully I was wrong as not only were the graphics not a strain on my eyes, but the game uses the graphic style in its gameplay and story perfectly. It really is like playing and watching a live action graphic novel. Not only that, but all the environments look so alive with lots of environmental items you can interact with as well a lot of eye catching level designs.
Another thing you will notice about MadWorld is how over the top it is. This game definitely earned the M rating it received. For example, the gameplay consists of you picking apart you enemies as violently as you can. This includes impaling enemies with traffic signs, shoving tires around them, repeatedly slamming them against spiked walls, and so on. Combining these actions together earns you a larger score, and once that score hits a certain level you can fight the boss for the current stage. The bosses themselves are a great deal of fun and just as amazing looking as the rest of the game. I have to admit that they are not particularly difficult to beat, but they are definitely entertaining to fight.
I should also mention the games use of motion sensing controls, which are thankfully not used much. For the most part you will use them to finish off bosses and enemies, or to swing your chainsaw. I mostly had no problems with the game reading my motions, so I really can not complain with how the games uses them. All you really ever have to do is swing your Wii Remote or Nunchuk in a certain direction or shake them both repeatedly when prompted to do so.
The games music also works surprising well, and the same can be said about the games obscene commentators. Trust me, at one point or another they will make you laugh out loud, in my case it was often. The games story is also a lot better than expected with some nice twist and turns. Best of all it uses the games graphic novel style perfectly during cut-scenes.
Now MadWorld is not perfect so there are few things I should mention that the game has against it. Many have already pointed out how short the game is, and I have to agree as my first play-through took me less than 5 hours. There is reason to play the game after completing it the first time, including playing it on the hard difficulty, and trying to complete all the games "DeathWatch Challenges." For some this may not be enough, but again it is there for those who are interested in replaying the game. Another problem for some might be the repetitive nature of Beat-'Em-Up games. This genre will never be for everyone so some might get tired of the gameplay quickly and not even bother finishing the game. The games sense of humor might also put some people off as will the level of violence, but again this is a M rated game.
MadWorld is definitely not a game for everyone. From the level of violence, to the sense of humor and repetitive gameplay, MadWorld will put some players off. However for those who love Beat-'Em-Up games, and over the top gameplay, MadWorld delivers a fun experience. Personally, I would love to see a sequel.
